Editorial Policy
How we create content, ensure accuracy, and maintain the quality of information on Piscora.
Our editorial principles
Piscora exists to provide clear, accurate information for fishkeepers. Every piece of content follows the same core principles:
- Accuracy first - Information is cross-referenced against scientific sources and experienced keepers.
- Practical focus - Content is written for people keeping fish, not passing exams.
- No fluff - Guides get to the point without unnecessary padding.
- Honest limitations - If something is uncertain or debated, we say so.
Sources and research
Content on Piscora is based on a combination of scientific literature, established fishkeeping references, and practical experience from the hobby.
For species profiles, we reference taxonomic databases, published care guides, and field observations where available. For care guides, we draw on established aquarium science and cross-reference with multiple sources to verify accuracy.
When sources disagree, we present the range of accepted values or note the disagreement rather than picking one arbitrarily.
Content review process
All content goes through a review process before publication:
- 1. Initial research and drafting
- 2. Fact-checking against primary sources
- 3. Review for clarity and practical usefulness
- 4. Publication with date stamp
Existing content is periodically reviewed and updated when new information becomes available or when readers report issues.
Corrections and updates
We take accuracy seriously. If you spot an error or have information that contradicts what we have published, please contact us.
When we make corrections, we update the content directly and note the updated date. For significant corrections, we may add a note explaining what changed.
Editorial independence
Piscora does not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or affiliate arrangements. This policy exists to ensure recommendations are based on usefulness to fishkeepers, not commercial relationships.
We may mention specific products or brands when relevant to a topic, but these mentions are editorial decisions based on what we believe is helpful information.
AI-generated images
Some species pages display AI-generated images. These are used as placeholders when we do not have access to a suitable photograph of the species.
AI images are always clearly labeled with an "AI Generated" badge. They are intended to give a general visual impression of the species but should not be relied upon for precise identification. Colouration, patterns, and proportions may not be entirely accurate.
We prioritize sourcing real photographs from Wikimedia Commons, GBIF, and community contributors. When a real photo becomes available, we replace the AI placeholder. If you have a photograph of a species that is currently using an AI image and would like to contribute, please contact us.
